Lebanon, Israel, United Nations Hold Tripartite Meeting

A tripartite meeting was held on Wednesday between Lebanon, Israel entity and the United Nations (UN) to discuss the land border demarcation between the two countries, notably the Ghajar village and the Shebaa farms.

The meeting was held in Ras Al Naqoura in southern Lebanon, and was headed by the Commander of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Major General Aroldo Lazaro.

The Lebanese Army stated that the meeting discussed the13 points that were considered a violation, without reaching an agreement. It was also agreed that contacts and meetings would continue under the auspices of the UN.

It is noteworthy that this file has been raised in all the tripartite meetings held in Ras Naqoura, the headquarters of UNIFIL, since 2006, and a lot of work was done on it in 2018 and 2019. It is the only place where the Lebanese and Israeli parties meet, with the presence of the UN, to discuss border issues.

The US mediator for demarcating the southern maritime border Amos Hochstein visited Lebanon and the Israeli entity late last month, where he discussed land border demarcation with Lebanese officials.

Hochstein had a key role in resolving the maritime dispute between Lebanon and the Israeli entity that resulted in the signing of an agreement last October under the auspices of the UN and with US mediation.
