LEBANESE ARMY THWARTS ATTEMPTED ILLEGAL BORDER CROSSING, APPREHENDS SYRIAN NATIONALS

General

The Lebanese Army on Thursday issued a statement detailing the continued efforts of its units aimed at combating illegal border crossing.

Over the past two weeks, these efforts have resulted in the foiling of attempts by nearly 700 Syrians to cross the Lebanese-Syrian border unlawfully.

On January 3, 2024, at the Shadra checkpoint in Akkar, nine Syrian nationals were apprehended after successfully infiltrating Lebanese territory within a tanker truck designated for gas transport. The driver of the tanker was also detained for further questioning.

An investigation into the detainees’ activities has commenced under the supervision of the relevant judiciary, as the Lebanese authorities intensify their efforts to curb such illegal activities along the border.
