The Lebanese army announced today, Friday, that two soldiers were martyred after the Israeli occupation army targeted a center affiliated with it in the south of the country.

The army said in a statement, “The Israeli occupation targeted an army center in the town of Kafra – south, which led to the death of two martyrs and three wounded.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned “the Israeli aggression that targeted an army center in the southern town of Kafra, which led to the martyrdom of two soldiers.”

Mikati said: “This persistent Israeli crime against Lebanon has not spared any brave soldiers today who are carrying out their national duty in protecting the land and defending the people. It is in the drawing of the international community that is silent on Israel’s crimes, while what is required is a global stand of conscience to put an end to this aggression.”

On the other hand, the UNIFIL command announced that any deliberate attack on peacekeeping soldiers constitutes a serious violation of
international humanitarian law and Security Council Resolution 1701.

“The UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura was hit by explosions for the second time in 48 hours today, and two peacekeepers were injured after two explosions occurred near a watchtower. One of the wounded was transferred to a hospital in Tyre, while the second is receiving treatment in Naqoura,” a UNIFIL statement said on Friday.

‘Today, several protective walls collapsed at the UN position near the Blue Line in Labouneh, when an Israeli bulldozer crashed into the perimeter of the position and Israeli tanks moved close to the UN position. Our peacekeepers remained on the site, and a UNIFIL quick reaction force was dispatched to assist and reinforce the position,’ the statement added.

The statement considered that “these incidents put the UN peacekeeping forces, operating in southern Lebanon at the request of the Security Council under Resolution 1701, in very grave danger.”

The statement considered that “what happened constitutes a dangerous d
evelopment, and UNIFIL stresses the need to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to respect the sanctity of UN premises at all times. Any deliberate attack on peacekeeping soldiers constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and Security Council Resolution 1701.”
