Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Labour Minister and Chairman of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), opened a technical cooperation workshop with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in the field of market analysis and monitoring.
The workshop, which will last two days, is organised by the Ministry of Labour, with the participation of representatives of strategic partners from the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), the Ministry of Education, the Economic Development Board (EDB), the Higher Education Council (HEC), the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), the LMRA, the Information and e-Government Authority (iGA), and Skills Bahrain.
The workshop came within the framework of the existing technical cooperation programme between the Ministry of Labour and the committees affiliated with the UN to benefit from international expertise in the process of formulating policies and directions related to the qualification and employment of national cadres.
It will focus on analysing labour market data and indicators, preparing scientific studies, and employing them to facilitate the integration of job seekers into the private sector, as well as developing the national workforce.
During the workshop, Minister Humaidan emphasized the importance of these specialized technical workshops in examining the best international practices in the field of technical support and consultations related to analysing the labour market needs.
Humaidan said that these joint efforts would contribute to providing participants with the latest analysing programmes internationally, linking them to practices in Bahrain enhancing their capabilities and taking the most of the investment of the “ESCWA Skills Monitor”, by tracking the labour market performance and producing information to prepare and qualify the national workforce.
The workshop will also examine the experiences of ESCWA member states in employing people with higher education qualifications and acquiring the necessary skills to integrate into the private sector, identifying majors that face difficulty integrating into the labour market, and developing rehabilitation programmes for job seekers. It also reviews the best international practices using modern methods in guiding job seekers, and school and university students and sets up an information system about Bahraini skills using artificial intelligence (AI).
