Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s KING PACHA lands the Late Yousuf Al Romaihi Cup

Al Shaqab Racing’s ALARISH wins Mesaimeer Cup

In an annual tradition, the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the Late Yousuf Al Romaihi Cup race meeting, at the Al Rayyan Racecourse turf track on Thursday, 17 March. The nine-race card was the 41st race day in the 2021-22 season. QREC celebrates the late Yousef Bin Ahmed Saad Ahmed Al Jabbarah Al Romaihi as a notable icon of Qatar’s equestrian sport by organising a race meeting and a cup named after him every year.

KING PACHA

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s KING PACHA (IRE) (Acclamation x Regina Mundi) wrapped up the day landing the Late Yousuf Al Romaihi Cup, proving the strongest stayer in the 3200m race for 4YO Thoroughbreds and recording a double on the day for trainer Gassim Ghazali and jockey Soufiane. The Jassim Bin Ali M A Al-Attiyah-owned and Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki-trained FIEROSPEED (IRE) (Zoffany) was the runner-up under Eduardo Pedroza. The Nasser Saeed M S Al-Eida-owned and GOLD FLEECE (GB) (Nathaniel), who is also a stablemate of the winner, was a further length behind in third under JP Guillambert.

Ali and Mubarak, sons of the late Yousuf Al Romaihi, crowned the winners and exchanged memento shields with Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager.

ALARISH

In the penultimate race, Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred ALARISH (FR) (TM Fred Texas x Nasrat) went one better than his runner-up finish the previous week as he won the Mesaimeer Cup by a length for trainer Eric Lemartinel. Faleh Bughanaim rode the 5YO to land the spoils in the 1600m race for 4-6YO Purebred Arabian Maidens. The Mohammed Bin Fahad A H Al Attiya-owned and Mohammed Ghazali-trained BROOG (FR) (AF AlBahar) finished second under Meteb Ali Al-Marri. The Al Jeryan Stud-owned and Mohamed H. K. Al Attiyah-trained AJS SAAEQ (QA) (AF AlBahar) was one and a quarter lengths further back in third under Szczepan Mazur.

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubais, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners.

GINKEAU

In the seventh race, GINKEAU (FR) (Divamer x Eauvation Des Cedres) registered a win for his owner and trainer Osama Omer E Al-Dafea. Ronan Thomas steered the 6YO horse to a two and a half-length win in the 1400m Conditions for 4YO+ Purebred Arabian.

MARUF

In the sixth race, the 2000m Handicap (0-100) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians saw Umm Qarn’s MARUF (FR) (Tabarak x Noorah) gain victory as he came with a late surge to win by a length in the hands of jockey Soufiane Saadi for trainer Alban de Mieulle.

SHE’S OUR QUEEN

In the fifth race and in another close finish similar to the one which the marked the previous race and even close, Hassan Ali A M Alabdulmalik’s SHE’S OUR QUEEN (IRE) (Toronado x Dyna Bowl) got back to winning ways as she won the 2000m Handicap (0-90) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds in the hands of Eduardo Pedroza. The Debbie Mountain-trained 5YO mare showed a fine attitude to get her head in front close home, winning with a neck to spare at the line. The Faleh Suwayed B S AL Ajami-owned and Stefano Ibido-trained BEACHWALK (GB) (Showcasing) was the runner-up under Ronan Thomas. The Mansoor Ebrahim S I Al-Mahmoud-owned and Gassim Ghazali-trained SEMPER AUGUSTUS (GB) (Dutch Art) was a further nose behind under Meteb Ali Al-Marri.

MONEEATY

It was a close finish in the fourth race in the card, the 1600m Handicap (0-85) for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians, as jockey Lukas Delozier got Mohamed Abdulla S Al Hajri’s MONEEATY (QA) (Asraa Min Albarq x Mansourah ASF) up to win by a head for trainer Hamad Al Jehani, who recorded a double on the card. The Saad Rabiah Saad Al Kaabi-owned and Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki-trained RAFEEAT AL SHAN (QA) (AF AlBahar) was the runner-up under Tomas Lukasek. The Sabhea Awad Ibrahim-owned and Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained SUKA’AR (QA) (Burning Sand) was a further short head behind in third under Meteb Ali Al-Marri.

MAJALH

Mohammed Bin Hamad Khalifa Al Attiyah’s MAJALH (IRE) (Siyouni x Musaanada), trained by Gassim Ghazali, made a winning Qatar debut, doubling his tally on his fourth career-start. jockey Szczepan Mazur doubled up on the day as he managed to get the colt home in front by half a length in the 1400m Novice for 3YO Thoroughbreds, the third race of the day.

LOCAL LAW

In the second race, Hamed Ali H A Al Mulla’s LOCAL LAW (GB) (Dubawi x Lady Marian) got off the mark in the 2000m Handicap (0-75) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds. The Hamad Al Jehani-trained 4YO gelding gained success by one and a half lengths under Meteb Ali Al-Marri.

AL BURAQ

Mohammed H.K Al Attiyah was the first trainer on the board as he saddled Al Jeryan Stud’s AL BURAQ (QA) (Nathaniel x Foxtrol Alpha) to double his tally on his fifth career start, winning the 1600m Novice Plate for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbreds by one and three quarter lengths under jockey Szczepan Mazur.
