JOURNEY TO EXCELLENCE: THE FIRST TALK SHOW TO HIGHLIGHT THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF FEMALE GRADUATES OF QU-HEALTH

QU-Health at Qatar University (QU) recently organized the first talk show: A Journey to Excellence, with distinguished graduates from the QU-Health colleges, to shed light on their recent achievements and awards after graduation at Ibn Al-Bitar Building at Qatar University.

The event was held in the presence of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy Dr. Feras Alali, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Hanan Abdel Rahim, and the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Alla El-Awaisi, with some department heads from QU Health colleges, in addition to a number of students and graduates from QU-Health colleges. The talk show was moderated by Ms Khawla Mortazavwi, Head of Media and Publication Department at Qatar University.

At the beginning, Ms Khawla welcomed the distinguished graduates and praised their achievements in the field of health. These included: College of Pharmacy graduate Hend Al-Naimi the recipient of the Platinum Medal for the education excellence award for university graduates across Qatar, College of Health Science Public Health graduate Khaloud Mohammed S A Al-Marri the recipient of the Gold Medal for the education excellence award for university graduates across Qatar. Also College of Health Sciences, biomedical sciences graduate Dr Noura Adam Mohamed for receiving the L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Middle East regional young talent award 2021. She received her BA in Biomedical Sciences from Qatar University, and her MSc and PhD from Imperial College London. She is currently a Research Associate at the Biomedical Research Institute at Qatar University, and an Honorary Research Associate at Imperial College London.

Hind and Kholoud expressed their pride and joy at this Emiri honor and they stressed that the award reflects the country's support for academic excellence. The graduate students also urged the students to the importance of scientific and academic excellence and to pursue their postgraduate studies in their field of specialization after graduating from the university, which has a great impact on refining scientific thinking in the new generation. They advised the students on the importance of balancing study and quality time with the family to enhance their wellbeing during their study journey.

Vice President for Health and Medical Sciences at Qatar University Dr. Asma Al-Thani stressed on the importance of QU-Health graduates continuing to communicate with male and female students even after graduation, because they are ambassadors for success in the field of scientific research at the state level. She pointed out that these dialogue meetings between distinguished graduates scientifically and academically always help to enhance the scientific value and develop the educational process in the colleges of the health and medical sciences sector.

Hind Nasser Al-Naimi said, "Since receiving the Platinum Medal in secondary school, I have pledged myself to continue on this road of success and make my utmost efforts to achieve my aspirations, which were achieved after joining the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University and graduating with distinction with honors."

Kholoud Al-Marri added, "Receiving this award is only a new starting point to achieve more excellence, as I aspire in the future to have a prominent role in the field of public health. In addition, my contribution is to devote efforts to the most important health issues, as well as launching preventive programs and services that, by their nature, seek to promote and spread health awareness".

Dr. Nora Adam Muhammad, expressed her honor with the award, saying, "I feel proud and honored to win this award, as it will help me provide the most wonderful role models for my colleagues and students, it will encourage many women to engage in scientific research community and represent female researchers in the State of Qatar in general and the health and medical sciences sector at Qatar University in particular”.

Ms Khawla Mortazavi said, "I was very pleased to interview a group of distinguished graduates from QU-Health. It was a rich meeting in information with many important messages for our students paving the way for them to excel and succeed. They are truly an example of our distinguished graduates."

At the end of the dialogue, Dr. Hanan Abdul Rahim and Dr Feras Alali honored the distinguished graduates on behalf of Dr. Asma Al Thani. Furthermore Rawda Abdul Aziz Al Thani from the College of Pharmacy and Al Anoud Al Baker College of Medicine were recognized for receiving the gold medal for the Scientific Excellence Award in the student category of school.
