Jordanian Interior Minister Underscores Responsibility of all Nations to Explore Solutions For Refugee File

Jordanian Minister of Interior Mazin Al Farrayeh underscored the importance of all nations’ engagement in finding solutions for refugees file, adding that such efforts require operationalizing the resettlement program, as per plans specifically set in this regard.

During his meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, Al Farrayeh stressed that all nations are concerned with this topic due to its humanitarian dimensions, affirming the importance of ironclad commitment to facilitate voluntary return procedures for refugees since integration is not an option.

He indicated that the firm truth is that the refugees’ homeland is primarily their mother country, pointing to the exigent need to increase the support afforded to Jordan to enable it to proceed with carrying out its humanitarian role towards refugees, notwithstanding the economic problems Jordan is beset by.

He outlined that the issue of refugees caused a spike in unemployment rate among Jordanians through an increasing demand for a variety of government services, as well as educational, health, energy, water, sanitation, and environment, along with the direct and indirect impacts on social and security aspects for this reality.
