Hypertension detection campaign to kick off in Bahrain May 17

Under the patronage of President of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), Chairman of Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS), Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, a hypertension detection campaign will kick off in the Kingdom of Bahrain on May 17.

The drive aims to raise awareness of controlling blood pressure and preventing the complications of this dangerous disease, which can even cause death from brain strokes and heart attacks.

Marking the occasion, Deputy Chairman of Bahrain Diabetes Society, Dr. Meriam Al Hajeri said marking the World Hypertension Day, which is observed on May 17, BDS will organize May campaign to monitor and detect hypertension. The event, she added, will be held under the patronage of Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the primary healthcare centres, Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), and other relevant parties.

Dr. Meriam Al Hajeri pointed out that the campaign will kick off at Seef Mall and will continue for three days. It will be followed by campaigns to detect hypertension at health centres and many work places. She revealed that the programme consists in checking a random sample from 2500 citizens and residents aged 18 and above.
