crowned Al Shaqab Racing with Late Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani Trophy

and Umm Qarn with National Day Cup

Under the patronage of His Excellency Salah Bin Ghanem Al-Ali, Minister of Sports and Youth, the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the Late Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani Trophy and Cup Day at the Al Rayyan Racecourse turf track on Thursday, 16 December. His Excellency the Minister crowned Al Shaqab Racing with the Late Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani Trophy following MWARID’s victory in the GR 2 P/A. Khalfan Bin Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Al Shaqab Arabian Racing Manager received the trophy. His Excellency the Minister also crowned Umm Qarn with the Halul Island Cup (National Day Cup) following EQUINOXE victory in the penultimate race. In addition, His Excellency the Minister crowned rider Mohammed Kamaan Al Khayareen, winner of Al Maseela Ride, which was held on the day. Al Khayareen won all the round and qualifiers on MALZOOM and won the final one as well. Hamad Bin Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, President of the Asian Equestrian Federation and Vice Chairman of QREC, was present during the trophy awarding ceremonies.

The day had a nice-race card and the two features were the Halul Cup (National Day Cup) in the penultimate race and then the Late Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani Trophy.

MWARID wins Late Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani Trophy

Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred MWARID (FR) (Amer x Al Nachmiya) landed the Late Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani Trophy (Gr2 P/A), for 3YO+ Purebred Arabians over 2000 by 2¾ lengths. It was such a powerful quick-fire double for trainer Alban de Mieulle as he had just returned from the winners’ enclosure having saddled the winner of the other feature race as well. Boasting a fabulous record of 5 wins in 6 starts, the 5YO gave jockey Soufiane Saadi a double on the day. Shabah (GB) (Amer) and Ginkeau (FR) (Divamer) took the minor honours respectively.

QUINOXE wins National Day Cup

Umm Qarn’s homebred EQUINOXE (QA) (Atlantic Air x Thurayya) landed the Halul Island Cup (National Day Cup) scoring his 4th straight victory and 7th success in all his 11 career starts for trainer Alban de Mieulle. The 4YO colt was ridden, in the 2000m ace for 3YO+ Local Thoroughbreds, by Ronan Thomas who chalked up a hat-trick on the day. Shaman Bu Thaila (QA) (Soviet Secret) and Al Adheed (QA) (Footstepsinthesand) finished second and third respectively.

DI OCO PY

In the seventh race in the card, Sharq Stud’s DI OCO PY (FR) (Nizam x Keniah), following a win and a runner-up finish, won his 3rd start this term, taking the 1400m Purebred Arabian Conditions by a length for trainer Owaida Salem Al Hajri and under Meteb Ali Al Saaq who scored his 2nd win on the day. Ateej (USA) (AF AlBahar) and Jabalah (FR) (Al Mamun Monlau) followed him in this order.

MONSIEUR NOIR

Abdulhadi Mana Al Hajri’s MONSIEUR NOIR (GB) (Shamardal x Night Frolic) won the 1600m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-100) for trainer Stefano Ibido, giving jockey Ronan Thomas a double on the day. The 5YO gelding finished almost a length in front of the runner up Massam (GB) (Dubawi). Sam Langford (IRE) (Footstepsinthesand) and Fuwayrit (IRE) (Gutaifan) were almost another length behind with a deadhead in the third place.

ACTION HERO

In the fifth race, Injaaz Stud’s ACTION HERO (IRE) (Dandy Man x Saga Celebre) scored his 4th victory winning the 1400m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-90) by a length for trainer Zuhair Mohsen with Soufiane Saadi in the saddle. Rex Place (IRE) (Battle Of Marengo) was the runner-up ahead of Festive (FR) (Literato)

MIZOUN

Al Sakab Stud’s homebred MIZOUN (QA) (Intense Focus x Champagne Fizz) returned quickly to winning ways gaining her 4th victory in her 10th career-start. Under Trevor Patel, the Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki-trained 6YO mare cosily won the 1200m Local Thoroughbred Handicap (0-90) by a half length. Bab Al Rayyan (QA) (Mayson) and Wadhah (QA) (Abide With Me) were second and third respectively.

SAYAAD

In the third race in the card, Al Ghazali Stud’s SAYAAD (FR) (Dahess x Al Shahania Aseala) doubled his account winning the 1600m Purebred Arabian Novice Plate. David Allan rode the Jassim Ghazali-trained 4YO colt to score comfortably by 1¾ lengths. Chamekh (FR) (Munjiz) and Majd’or (FR) (Majd Al Arab) took the minor honours.

ZOLTAN STAR

In the second race, Salman Mohammed Alemadi’s ZOLTAN STAR (GB) (Kodiac x Siralen) prevailed in the final strides of the 1100m Maiden for 2YO Thoroughbreds to win by the smallest of margins under Ronan Thomas for trainer Mohammed Ghazali. Cardinal Rouge (IRE) (Holy Roman Emperor) and Mount Snowdon (IRE) (War Front) completed the frame.

INQATH

Trainer Bader Al Balushi gets the day off to a flying start with a 1-2 in the 1600m Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate. The Al Azraq Stable-owned and Meteb Ali Al Saaq-ridden INQATH (QA) (Dahess x Ezdehar) won the opener by a half legnth. The winner’s stablemate was the runner-up. Mubadir (QA) (Majd Al Arab) was a further quarter of a length behind in third.
