FIFA : World Cup Doping Tests All Negative

Rio de Janeiro, July 07 (QNA) – World Football governing body FIFA said Monday that all its doping tests conducted on players participating in the World Cup have come back negative. Chairman of the FIFA medical committee Michel D’Hooghe said today that 736 players were tested in the World Cup and no one tested positive. The testing is part of a biological passport programme being launched by FIFA for the first time at a World Cup.

The programme works by randomly choosing two players from each team to provide post match urine samples. Doping tests have been used in World Cups since 1966. The last positive test was in 1994 Argentina’s legend Diego Maradona tested positive for banned substance. (QNA)
