EU Calls on New CAR Gov’t to Start Reconciliation Dialogue

Brussels, August 25 (QNA) – The EU on Monday said it has taken “careful note” of the announcement by the Prime Minister of the Central African Republic (CAR) Mahamat Kamoun of the composition of the new government last Friday.

“We encourage it to get down as quickly as possible to the implementation of the policy of reconciliation and national dialogue prior to a peaceful transition and for the organization of credible elections,” said a spokesperson for EU High Representative Catherine Ashton in a statement.

The statement reiterated the commitment of the EU to cooperate with the transitional authorities to restore the authority of the state throughout the Central African territory and conduct sustainable development of the country’s reforms.

“In this perspective, the restoration of the rule of law, and in particular the respect of fundamental rights of every citizen, must be a priority. We also stress the importance of a sincere dialogue between all parties,” it added. (QNA)
