Earthquake Jolts Western Iran

Tehran, June 29 (QNA) – An earthquake measuring 4.1 on Richter scale jolted Firouzabad and its vicinity on joint border area of Iran’s Lorestan and Hamedan provinces Sunday morning.

The epicenter of the tremor was located in an area 34.00 degrees in latitude and 48.20 degrees in longitude., (IRNA) news agency reported citing the seismological base affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University
No report was immediately available on possible damage caused by the tremor.

Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth’s crust, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating. (QNA)
