China: US Threatens Regional Stability Following Deal to Use Additional Military Bases in Philippines

China on Tuesday accused the US of threatening regional peace and stability, following a deal that secures Washington's access to four additional military bases in the Philippines.

China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said that Washington ratchets up its military presence in the region in a way that stokes tensions ad threatens regional peace and stability.

The countries in the region should think deeply about what is appropriate and beneficial for all, in order to make choices that are truly beneficial to their interests and also to peace and stability, she added.

On Monday, the Philippines announced that the US would be granted access to four additional military bases, one near the disputed South China Sea and another not far from Taiwan. (QNA)
