The symposium, organized by the Community Development Department of the Ministry, discussed the importance of reducing illiteracy and raising awareness about the significance of education. It provided an opportunity for relevant authorities, civil society organizations, and stakeholders to discuss and present the major improvements in literacy rates.

Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs, Ghanim Mubarak Al Kuwari, emphasized the ministry's keen interest in empowering and facilitating opportunities for those affected by illiteracy by providing them with education and engaging them in public life. He added that the ministry implements national strategies, plans, and policies related to family care, especially for the elderly.

He underscored the ministry's keenness to celebrate this day to highlight the significance of literacy and education for individuals and communities. He stressed that education plays a pivotal role in community development, providing individuals with the knowledge and skills needed for personal and professional success.

Acting Director of the Community Development Department, Hadeel Al Ajeel, stressed the importance of this annual event, pointing out that various concerned entities use this platform to showcase their efforts, projects, and supportive programs aimed at eradicating illiteracy.

She said that Qatar has made significant contributions to the establishment of numerous educational centers for adult education and literacy, pointing out that the Ministry of Social Development and Family plays a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development and improving the quality of life for individuals affected by illiteracy and directs its efforts and resources towards this goal.

International Literacy Day falls on September 8th each year and was recognized by UNESCO in 1966. Its purpose is to shed light on the importance of literacy for individuals and communities.

Qatar has established numerous educational centers for adult education and literacy. These centers aim to teach reading and writing to adults, with the first adult education and literacy center being established in 1954.

Qatar's efforts to eradicate illiteracy extend to the Arab region and the world via various programs, initiatives, and international conferences focused on addressing illiteracy. Additionally, the "Educate A Child" initiative, implemented by the Education Above All Foundation, aims to reduce the number of children deprived of their right to education.

The President of the University, Dr. Imad Al-Zeer, welcomed the guest and the attendees, pointing out that the invitation comes in the context of the University’s constant endeavor to strengthen relations with Arab organizations and universities, pointing out that the Union of Arab Universities is considered one of the most important Arab organizations working to unite Arab universities and enhance communication between them.

For his part, Professor Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama expressed his great happiness to be alone on this good land, the land of Palestine, saying, “Since the first day I assumed my position, I have been keen to visit Palestinian universities, and thank God I was able to fulfill my desire to be hosted by Palestine National University, and I am happy to be there.” "With you and between you."

He thanked Palestine Ahliya University for this generous invitation and facilitating the visit to get to know the reality of Palestinian universities closely and meet university presidents.

He gave an overview of the Association of Arab Universities, saying that it is a non-governmental organization founded in 1964 based on a decision issued by the League of Arab States. Its membership includes more than 450 Arab universities and its headquarters are in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

He presented a set of figures about the reality of higher education in the Arab world, most notably the enrollment of 65% of students in humanities majors in universities, and 35% of students in other majors.

He said that about 600,000 students from the Arab world are studying outside their countries, including 50% who remain in these countries.

He talked about the reality of Arab universities in the international rankings, explaining that there are about 14 Arab universities among the top 500 universities in the world.

He said that scientific research and financing scientific research are considered the most prominent challenges facing higher education in the Arab world, adding that Arab countries spend less than 1% of their national income on scientific research only, and this percentage is very small compared to developed countries.

He talked about the role of universities in light of artificial intelligence, pointing out that there are many questions about the role of universities in the future and they will be discussed during a conference during the coming period.

He also spoke about the objectives of the Union, the most prominent of which are cooperation in controlling the quality of university and higher education and ensuring its quality, striving to achieve mutual recognition of academic degrees and certificates issued by educational institutions, supporting student excellence and creativity, encouraging joint student activities between educational institutions, encouraging the establishment of research centers and supporting the conduct of joint scientific research and exchange. Its results, paying attention to applied research, linking its topics to Arab economic and social development plans, strengthening cooperation between educational institutions and coordinating their efforts among themselves and with universities and relevant regional and international institutions, especially in keeping pace with the developments of the times and modern educational techniques and patterns.

He said that the Union includes under its umbrella 40 educational institutions distributed in various universities in the Arab world, and it also works to provide many awards in the subjects of scientific research, excellence and creativity

The Department of Allied Health Professions at Modern University College organized a welcome and introductory day for new students accepted into the Diploma in Nursing major today, at the building of Attorney Dr. Hussein Al-Shuyouki in Ramallah.

The students were received by Dr. Ribhi Bsharat, Dean of the Modern University College, Mr. Qutaiba Alawneh, Director of the Student Affairs Department, Mr. Yasser Al-Sabti, Director of the Practical Training Office, and a group of academics and administrators.

Dr. Bisharat explained to the students the systems and laws in force in modern university settings, pointing out the necessity of adhering to the face-to-face work, and explaining the nature of the curricula and educational supplements and the ways to obtain them, in addition to clarifying the standards and conditions required for bridging in terms of grades and others.

Bisharat stressed that nursing is a vital artery that provides society and countries with the necessary competencies to maintain people’s health and provide them with the necessary health care in light of the challenges surrounding public health locally and globally. He explained that they undertake a great humanitarian mission that requires them to master what they have learned and reflect it in the best way in the labor market after graduation. .

Dr. Bisharat pointed out that Al-Asriya University, throughout its continuous forty-year journey in university education, has provided an educational environment and structure that responds to the requirements of the profession and the era, including basic laboratories and advanced simulation laboratories equipped with the latest medical devices and models for training, in addition to launching Al-Asriya Life Support Training Center, which enables students to Take basic and advanced courses in basic and advanced CPR and more.

For his part, Alawneh stated that the Student Affairs Department has been working from day one to involve students in extracurricular activities such as sports, literary and artistic activities, in addition to participating in local, Arab and international conferences in order to strengthen the students and provide them with life experiences that will remain a moral asset for them that will strengthen and support them with the knowledge they acquire. Regarding practical training, Mr. Yasser Al-Sabti, the training officer at Al-Asriya University, explained the training stages that nursing diploma students go through, starting from the first semester until the last, stressing that commitment to practical training must be double that of its theoretical part, by wearing the official uniform and adhering to training protocols and applications. The students’ commitment will later reflect educational outcomes and the ability to fulfill the requirements of the profession in the Palestinian labor market.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the academics and students went on a tour of the Al-Asriya University campus to learn about its important halls and facilities.

It is noteworthy that Al-Asriya University will organize an introductory day for the bachelor’s degree in nursing and other allied health professions, on Wednesday, 9/13/2023

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced today the availability of a number of scholarships in the field of postgraduate studies (Master's and Doctorate) in the Republic of Pakistan, for the academic year 2023-2024.

The Ministry also announced the availability of a number of scholarships for the year 2023-2024 at the Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences in Pakistan, to obtain a bachelor’s degree in various specializations.

The initiative which is coordinated with the Ministry of Interior reflects commitment to enabling all citizens to develop their capabilities and contribute to developing their communities, said Education Minister, Higher Education Council (HEC) Board of Trustees’ Chairman Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma.

In a statement today, Dr. Juma praised the support of the Minister of Interior General Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to joint work to implement the best practices and care for inmates’ rights.

A batch of 192 inmates from reformation and rehabilitation centres will be registered after expressing their desire to study for their bachelor and master’s degrees.

He pointed out that the council held a series of meetings with competent authorities before launching the initiatives, extending their to the Ministry of Interior, as well as higher education institutions for their cooperation.

The inmates will be registered in academic majors which include business management, accounting and geography and history.

The training session of the first batch of female civilian volunteers at the Reserve Force kicked off at the Bahrain Defence Force today.

Major-General Muneer Ahmed Al-Subaie, Royal Reserve Force Unit Commander, attended the opening of the course, held at the Isa Royal Military College, with the participation of female civilian volunteers from the relatives of the military and civilian staff and retirees of the BDF and the National Guard.

The training session aims to provide military training for the participants in order to enable them to carry out their patriotic role in serving and defending the nation, alongside their brethren from the BDF, based on the keenness of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to advance the status of Bahraini women.

The BDF has prepared well for the training session by providing all requirements, equipping the classrooms, selecting the best trainers and offering the best study subjects that cover military sciences, theoretical materials and practical training programmes, which will ensure the graduation of well-trained and qualified female civilian reservists.

The global Education Above All (EAA) Foundation announced a partnership aimed at providing quality primary education to every remaining out-of-school child (OOSC) in Rwanda.

In a statement, the EAA said that a framework agreement was signed between EAA through EAA's Educate A Child program and the government of Rwanda and Save the Children to ensure Zero OOSC, with the support of Qatar Fund for Development. The new project targets the hardest to reach OOSC in Rwanda.

This agreement builds on the achievements made by the Government of Rwanda and its partners in recent years. Due to their sustained efforts, the number of children needing to be enrolled in school is only approximately 177,000.

During the launch, HE Rwanda's Minister of State for Education Claudette Irere reiterated the significance of education to all and demonstrated the Government's efforts towards the initiative.

"One of our major priorities is access to quality Education, leaving no child behind and ensuring their retention, transition, and completion throughout the Education system. This partnership complements our ongoing efforts of ensuring that no child drops out of school. We look forward to a successful collaboration." Commenting on this project, Executive Director of EAA Foundation's Educate A Child program Dr Mary Joy Pigozzi, says: "This partnership with Save the Children offers concrete opportunities to Rwanda's children who have been left out of education. We thank the government of Rwanda, whose commitment will ensure that every single out-of-school girl and boy is given a chance to learn and thrive." Save the Children President and CEO Janti Soeripto said: "For more than 100 years, Save the Children has been committed to helping children access education to reach their full potential. We are honored to work together with the Education Above All Foundation and the Ministry of Education of Rwanda to ensure all children, including those with disabilities, can go to school to learn and grow. EAA's Zero OOSC was launched in 2019. In a potential game-changer for email communication, Gmail is reportedly in the testing phase of a feature that allows users to send emoji reactions in response to emails. This functionality aims to infuse email interactions with a touch of informality and engagement, mirroring how emojis are widely used in text messages and social media comments.

Recent reports from The Verge, Chrome Unboxed, and PCMag shed light on this upcoming feature, indicating that it could soon be rolled out to users. The functionality was initially discovered in the iOS Gmail app's code by Steve Moser of The Tape Drive last month.

Users will have the option to send emoji reactions directly from the email screen or through the three-dot overflow menu, although the latter option is currently disabled during the testing phase.

Google has hinted at its eagerness to integrate this feature into Gmail, further confirming its potential impact on email communication. Some Gmail users have already received messages notifying them that they are among the first to access emoji reactions, suggesting a gradual rollout to a select group for initial testing, as reported by Android Police. Strings found within the Android app also affirm that emoji reactions are on the horizon, according to 9to5Google.

The introduction of emoji reactions has the potential to revolutionise email correspondence, providing a quick and informal means of responding without the need for lengthy replies. This could prove particularly valuable in professional settings where quick acknowledgments are often required.
