Canada, US Conclude Negotiations on Use of US Space Technology

General

Canada and the United States of America announced the completion of negotiations on an agreement for the Canadian government to use US space launch technology, expertise and data. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that Canada's vibrant and growing commercial space launch industry depends on its ability to cooperate across borders.. noting that "the conclusion of negotiations between Canada and the United States means that we are one step closer to finalizing this agreement, which, when it enters into force, will put Canada in a position to be a global leader in commercial space launch." It is worth noting that in 2021, Canada decided to enter the space competition by sending a rover to the surface of the moon within 5 years, and Ottawa announced, at the time, its great ambition to enhance its competitive share in the growing global space market.
