WAM ABU DHABI, 25th March, 2014 (WAM) — The Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award has approved the winners list put forward by the Award’s Scientific Committee for the eighth session of 2013 / 2014 across all nine categories.
The categories are: Contribution to the Development of Nations, Children’s Literature, including adolescents books, Young Author, Translation, Literature, Literary and Art Criticism, Arabic Culture in a non-Arab language, Publishing and Technology and Cultural Personality of the Year (open to individuals and organisations).
The Award Committee received a record number of 1,385 nominations for this cycle, representing a growth of 12 percent over the last session.
Dr. Ali Bin Tamim, Secretary-General of the Award, said that the complete list of winners will be announced in April, to be followed by an Awards Presentation Ceremony on May 4th at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, coinciding with the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
The Board of Trustees is headed by Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority while other members include Zaki Nusseibeh, Advisor to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs; Mohammad Khalaf Al Mazroui, Advisor for Cultural and Heritage Affairs at the Court of H.H. Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee – Abu Dhabi; Jumaa Al Qubaisi, Executive Director of the National Library; Mubarak Al-Muhairi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and Dr. Ali Rashed Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor at U.A.E. University, in addition to Dr. Ali Bin Tamim, the Secretary-General.
The Board is responsible for setting the Award’s general policies and determining its organisational structure, in addition to any decisions concerning the Award categories and winners.
