BJA backs HM King’s call to combat hate speech

Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) commended His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's message marking the World Press Freedom Day, annually observed on May 3.

BJA Chairman Isa Al Shaiji expressed the press community's pride in HM the King's message , appreciating national cadres working in the media sector in recognition of their contributions and partnership national development.

He praised press achievements in Bahrain, supported by HM the King. He said the democracy and legal guarantees in Bahrain enabled the fourth estate to perform its role responsibly and professionally.

Noting HM the King's address, he said that speech and misinformation are the deadliest scourges in modern societies, highlighting the royal call for the importance of reaching a global agreement to criminalize all forms of hate speech.

He urged commitment and adherence to HM the King's directives in developing journalistic and media work, laying the foundations for free, fair and objective speech, enhancing the sense of belonging to the homeland, and protecting the right of access to knowledge.
