BERRI WELCOMES CYPRIOT PRESIDENT: LEBANON, CYPRUS BOLSTER TIES, ADDRESS REGIONAL ISSUES

House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Monday welcomed Cypriot President, Nicos Christodoulides, and his accompanying delegation at the second presidency headquarters in Ain al-Tineh. The meeting was attended by Cypriot Ambassador to Lebanon, Maria Hadjitheodosiou, Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Bassam Mawlawi, and Lebanon's Ambassador to Cyprus, Claude Hajal. Discussions focused on the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as on bilateral relations between Lebanon and Cyprus and issues of mutual interest. Following the Cypriot President's departure, Speaker Berri responded to journalists' questions, stating, "Talks were very good." He denied "any resentment from the Cypriot side" and said, "On the contrary, there is fruitful cooperation." The House Speaker also noted that "developments in southern Lebanon, Gaza, and the overall Palestinian situation were discussed during the meeting." Regarding the possibility of a breakthrough in the presidential file after the holiday, Berri replied, "God willing." Upon his arrival at Ain al-Tineh, the Cypriot President was welcomed by an official reception ceremony, where Speaker Berri welcomed him at the entrance of the Second Presidency Headquarters in Ain al-Tineh. The Internal Security Forces band played the Cypriot national anthem, followed by the Lebanese anthem. Berri separately welcomed UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, with whom he discussed the general situation and political and field developments. Due to the current situation, Speaker Berri announced his apology for not accepting Eid al-Fitr greetings, wishing all the Lebanese, especially Muslims, a blessed Eid.
