Bahrain’s afforestation programmes praised

Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak received Eleni Lenio Myrivili, Global Chief Heat Officer to UN Habitat.

Myrivili is in Bahrain to attend a workshop on Nature-based solutions for climate, environment and global warming in urban areas. The workshop is being organized by the UN Human Habitat in cooperation with the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry and UN FAO.

Present were Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry Undersecretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, UN-Habitat Bahrain’s Head of Country Programme Dr. Fernanda Lonardoni,

During the meeting, the minister highlighted Bahrain’s sustainable development plans and programmes, citing the afforestation campaign (Green Forever).

The Global Chief Heat Officer to UN Habitat commended Bahrain’s efforts to combat climate change through the “Greenest and Sustainable Cities” project, which is one of the results of cooperation between the UN Habitat, the UN FAO and the ministry.

She praised Bahrain’s afforestation achievements and plans to double the number of trees, in line with the UN programme aimed to protect the environment and combat climate change.
