The Kingdom of Bahrain is committeed to empowering women and bridging the gender gap, said Minister of Sustainable Development Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif.
This commitment, she said, reflects the visions of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the unwavering support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
She also attributed these strides to national efforts led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of HM the King and Supreme Council of Women (SCW) President.
Bridging the gender gap is key to building a balanced society, she said, highlighting Bahrain’s constitutional and legislative strides and executive procedures that emanate from the firm belief in women’s development role.
Al Khulaif made the comments with reference to the Global Gender Gap 2023, which was released by the World Economic Forum, assessing 146 countries on steps taken to reduce gaps between men and women across four dimensions: economic opportunities, education, health and political leadership
Bahrain scored 66.6% in closing the gender gap, compared to the global average of (68%). The kingdom’s ranking improved at the level of MENA region, increasing by six places compared to last year’s report, placing it third in the region.
Bahrain has also succeeded in moving up 38 notches from last year, in recognition of its outstanding results within the pillar of political empowerment.
“Bahrain’s quantum leap, which is reflected in international indicators that measure women’s progress, is one of the fruits of HM the King’s democratic approach”, said the minister.
She indicated that the achievements confirm Bahrain’s commitment to safeguarding and protecting women’s rights and bolstering their role in supporting national development.
She commended the SCW’s pivotal role and successes which further supported women’s contributions to national development and progress.
She praised Bahrain’s active participation, contributions and effective presence as well as competence in assuming responsibilities and holding leading positions.
Al Khulaif reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to stepping up efforts to incorporate women’s policies, integrate their needs, and supporting their competitive participation in qualitative and promising fields in light of the transformations taking place in global economies.
