Arab League Welcomes ICJ’s Decision to Halt Offensive on Rafah

The Arab League has welcomed the decision issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday, in which it ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive and any other action in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip. The Arab League stressed, in a statement, that the Israeli entity's failure to comply with the ICJ's decision means a further breach of its obligations regarding the Genocide Convention, noting that the court's decision expands the circle of sweeping international consensus to reject the continuation of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, and the necessity of a ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid through all crossings immediately to spare the population the risk of famine. The statement said that the continuation of the attack on Rafah is a crime that must be stopped immediately, pointing out that the decision reflects the conviction of the ICJ and its judges that the Israel has not taken measures to respond to the requests and conditions set by the court last March, thus s trengthening the charge of genocide. Earlier Friday, The International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a decision ordering the Israeli entity to immediately halt its military attack on Rafah and any other action in the governorate located south of the Gaza Strip, based on a request submitted by South Africa to amend the court's order issued on March 28 to issue more additional temporary measures, in the context of South Africa's accusation that the Israel violated the Convention on the Prevention of Genocide in the Gaza Strip.
