An International Conference On Nuclear Security Kicks off in Istanbul

Istanbul, June 23 (QNA) – An international conference and training workshop for journalists from the Middle East on Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and nuclear energy in the Middle East, kicked off on Monday in Istanbul, Turkey.

During the three-day conference, journalists will meet with a number of international and regional WMD and nuclear energy experts, watch a range of exercises and simulations and take a field trip to a nuclear reactor to conduct scientific research at a Turkish university.

The conference, being hosted by Okan University, has been organized by the Stanley Foundation, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies.

The workshop is aimed at training a select group of journalists from the region about WMD proliferation, arms control, and nuclear energy, while creating a community of peers trained to cover the highly technical topic.(QNA)
