Al Shaqab Racing’s JILMOD off the mark on handicap debut

Having his first run in a handicap, the Al Shaqab Racing owned JILMOD (Galileo Gold x Kuala Queen) opened his account when taking the Watch Racing For Free Online At Corla Nursery Handicap at Wolverhampton on Saturday, October 30th.

Trained by Hugo Palmer, the two-year-old colt was having his first run in a handicap following three runs earlier on in the season. Always well positioned, Jilmod scored with authority under a fine ride from jockey Ross Coakley.

Shuffled along on leaving the stalls, Jilmod was placed behind early leader Honeywell (Helmet) who set an extremely strong gallop. Slightly outpaced heading down the backstraight, Jilmod was passed by Intriguing Lady (Fascinating Rock). With the eight-runner field well spread out, Jilmod travelled into the home turn about three lengths off the lead. As the leaders began to crack on entering the straight, both Jilmod and Irish Millions (Profitable) made good headway around the outside of runners. The pair drew clear inside the final 200m and Jilmod began to pull his way through to the lead. The colt crossed the line a neck clear of Irish Millions, while Hilary’s Bay (Lethal Force) stayed on well to take third.

Bred by Tally Ho Stud, Jilmod is by their own stallion Galileo Gold (Paco Boy). His dam, Kuala Queen (Kodiac) was placed multiple times over five furlongs. Kuala Queen is a sister to Bear Cheek (Kodiac) winner of the Curragh Stakes (Group 3).
