Manama, Al Sakhir Palace, hosting the 33rd Arab Summit, is one of the most important royal palaces in the Kingdom of Bahrain and a venue for receiving visiting monarchs and leaders.
The palace, dating back to 1901, was once the residence of Bahrain’s late ruler, His Majesty Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who ruled from 1932 to 1942.
The palace, located in the south of the kingdom, has underwent extensive renovations and reopened on September 16, 2003, during the reign of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. It has maintained its significance as a landmark in Bahrain’s history, embodying the spirit of enlightenment and achievement, and the legacy of the forefathers in defending the nation, Arab identity, and Islamic values.
Al Sakhir Palace’s architecture features white buildings with arches and grand columns, symbolising Bahraini and Arab culture and standing as a splendid example of Bahraini architecture.
The palace has hosted key historical events, including state visits and official receptions of region
al and international heads of state. It also hosted the Gulf Cooperation Council Summit in December 2016.
It serves as a venue for Bahrain’s official national celebrations and for receiving ambassadors’ credentials, meeting citizens and other official meetings.
