Al Marri Praises Qatar’s Cooperation with Human Rights Organizations

Geneva, June 14 (QNA) – Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Chairman Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri participated Saturday in the Human Rights Council (HRC) 26th regular session.

The session discussed the report presented by Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants Francois Crepeau and his last visit to the State of Qatar in 2013 to stand on labor conditions in the country.

Speaking during the session, Al Marri praised the greater role undertaken by national human rights organizations and their cooperation with international mechanisms. He paid a special tribute to Crepeau for his report and to the role of the NHRC in his report, lauding in this regard the recommendation that urged government to provide more support for the Committee and to consider its recommendations, a matter that will increase the credibility of the NHRC and enhance its role.

Al Marri added that the recommendations made by Crepeau in the report will be taken into consideration in the ongoing cooperation between the Committee and the government represented by ministries of labor and interior and UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region in order to raise capacities and implement the recommendations.

Al Marri said the report came out with important recommendations, relating to legislations and cooperation between governments of countries sending laborers and those receiving them, in addition to the responsibility of the private sector in respecting the international standards for human rights.
