Advisor on US Foreign Policy to QNA: Qatar Supports UN Objectives, Regional Stability

Doha: Energy strategist and advisor on US foreign policy Dr. Umud Shokri noted that the State of Qatar has demonstrated strong support for United Nations objectives and regional stability over the past decade through cooperation with other regional and international actors.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency , he added that Qatar firmly believes in the importance of commitment to Un objective and the support and enhancement of multilateral cooperation.

He expressed his eagerness to listen to the speech of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting, currently held in UN headquarters in New York. He expects HH the Amir to focus on the situation in Gaza, regional and global cooperation, the need for reform in global governance structures, as well as other significant global issues such as cybersecurity, global education, and climate change.

Dr. Shokri added that Qatar is highly interested in the energy sector and is keen on expanding its investments a
nd partnerships, particularly as a major player in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. Therefore, it is anticipated that HH the Amir will address these topics in his upcoming speech. He emphasized Qatar’s strong role in regional stability and the global energy market, stating that the Qatari role will increase in the coming year.

The advisor on US foreign policy said that this UNGA session will be more significant than previous ones, adding that there will be a major discussion at the upcoming UNGA session concerning Palestine and Israel, especially regarding the current war in Gaza.

He pointed out that without an agreement between the two sides and a ceasefire, it is extremely difficult to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, where the people have been living in a state of war since Oct. 7 and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

Regarding relations between Qatar and the United States, Shokri explained that over the past decade, there have been strong ties between Qatar and the United States in
areas such as energy, defense, and advanced technology, with Qatar importing from the US, and the US also importing refined oil and raw aluminum from Qatar.

On the political relations front, Dr. Umud Shokri highlighted the desire of both countries to strengthen their strong ties in all areas, particularly economic, social, and political aspects. He expressed optimism about the future of Qatari-American relations, noting that Qatar has very strong financial potential and the US possesses advanced technology, with no conflict between the national interests of Washington and Doha.

Shokri affirmed in the conclusion of his interview with QNA that Qatar supports the US goal and initiative regarding the cessation of the war on Gaza, highlighting Qatar’s role in facilitating an agreement between Israel and Hamas, the need for humanitarian aid to enter Gaza and the release of hostages.
