WAM ABU DHABI: H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed, the Foreign Minister, has welcomed the decision by the European Union (EU) to open diplomatic mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Catherine Ashton, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in a press release earlier today, said she was “very pleased to announce the opening of an EU Delegation in the United Arab Emirates, as this decision highlights the importance both of our geo-strategic interests in and our political and economic ties with this country (UAE), as well as with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a whole.” Commending Ashton’s statement, Sheikh Abdullah noted that the opening of an EU mission in the United Arab Emirates would contribute to strengthening relations between the UAE and Gulf Cooperation Council, on one hand, and the European Union on the other.

He emphasized that the EU’s decision to open a mission to the United Arab Emirate is an important step that is in the interest of standing relations between the two sides and that highlights the United Arab Emirate’s role and its distinguished relations with the effective regional and international communities.
