Abdulatif Al Emadi’s JEWEL HOUSE wins Al Jassasiya Cup

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the 50th race meeting in the 2021-22 season, Al Jassasiya Cup Day, at the Al Rayyan Racecourse sand track on Wednesday, 20 April. It was Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s JEWEL HOUSE (GB) (Dubawi x Arizona Jewel) who landed the Al Jassasiya Cup. The Bader Al Balushi-trained 8YO was steered to an impressive two and three quarter length victory in the day’s feature, a 1900m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-100) for 3YO+ by Alberto Sanna who doubled up on the day. The Mansoor Ebrahim S I Al-Mahmoud-owned and Gassim Ghazali-trained SEMPER AUGUSTUS (GB) (Dutch Art) was second under JP Guillambert. The Injaaz Stud-owned and again Gassim Ghazali-trained ROMAN MELODY (GB) (Holy Roman Emperor) was further one and a quarter lengths behind in third under Marco Casamento.

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, presented the trophies to the winners.

EZZAT NAFS

In the penultimate race, Sabhea Awad Ibrahim’s homebred EZZAT NAFS (QA) (AF AlBahar x Bint Al Ajwad) completed a double, winning the 1200m Local Purebred Arabian Conditions for 4YO+. The Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained 5YO mare stayed on gamely in the closing stages under Szczepan Mazur to win by three quarters of a length at the line.

MOJANDIL

In the fifth race, and having won the fourth race, jockey Rashid Ali Al Saaq recorded a quick-fire double as he rode the Khalid Yousuf Al Jehani-owned MOJANDIL (IRE) (Estidhkaar x Skeleton) to get off the mark in the Thoroughbred Handicap (0-85). Saddled by Hamad Al Jehani, the 4YO took the 1200m contest for 3YO+ by three lengths.

HAZM AL URAIQ

After the fourth race, Jaber Saoud Al Marri’s HAZM AL URAIQ (QA) (Mandour x Hot Amber) continued his recent excellent form and took the 1200m Local Thoroughbred Handicap (0-75) for 3YO+. The Ali Al Saaq Al Marri-saddled 6YO came out on top by a quarter of a length under Rashid Ali Al Saaq.

SARHAN

In the third race, Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s SARHAN (FR) (Mared Al Sahra x Alghasa) bounced back to form to win the 1900m Purebred Arabian Novice Plate for 4YO+. The Julian Smart-trained 5YO picked up well for Marco Casamento to win by one and a quarter lengths.

DHAMIR

In the second race, Mohammed Khamis Eisa Al Kaabi’s DHAMIR (FR) (Elusive City x Parandeh), trained by Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki, won the 1900m Thoroughbred Maiden Plate for -6YOs in fine style, coming clear to win by two and three quarter lengths under Soufiane Saadi.

NAHEB AL NAIF

The day began with the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate and it was Al Naif Racing’s homebred NAHEB AL NAIF (QA) (Arkan Al Naif x Assala) who won the 1900m contest for 4-6YOs by a quarter of a length for trainer Georgina Ward and jockey Alberto Sanna.
