Qatar to face Kuwait for third place of Arab Youth Basketball Championship

CAIRO - Team Qatar will lock horns against Kuwait on Thursday in fight for the third place of

2022 Arab Youth Basketball Championship , which taking place in Egypt’ capital city of Cairo.

In Thursday final, hosts Egypt will take on Algeria in clash for the top honors.

Most notably, Team Qatar have recorded three consecutive victories against UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and suffered two defeats at the hands of Algeria and hosts Egypt.

The event is bringing together 6 nations including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Algeria, UAE and Egypt.

Bahrain gearing up for West Asia Junior Volleyball Championship

Manama, Bahrain junior volleyball team is stepping up preparations for the West Asian Championship, scheduled to start on Friday and run until July 31 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The national squad concluded its training sessions, which were attended by Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) Vice Chairman Mohammed Al-Dhawadi, secretary-general Firas Al-Halwaji and other board members.

Bahrain was drawn in Group A, which includes also Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Iraq, while Group B features Qatar, Syria, Kuwait, Palestine and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The national team will take Iraq on Friday at 1.30 PM in its first match of Group A.

Team Qatar U-20 to conclude Quartet Volleyball Friendly Tournament

AMMAN – Qatar team U-20 concluded a Quartet Volleyball Friendly Tournament on Wednesday, which organised by the Jordan Volleyball Federation with a participation of hosts Jordan, Palestine, Qatar and Lebanon.

Qatar youngsters concluded this friendly event with a 3-2 victory over hosts Jordan. Most notably Team Qatar began this event with setback after a 3-0 lost against Lebanon, followed by a narrow 3-2 victory over Palestine.

This friendly tournament comes in the frame of Team Qatar’s preparation for the upcoming West Asia U-20 Volleyball Championship will take place From July 20 to the first of August in Saudi Arabia.

UAE Ambassador meets Peruvian Minister of Economy and Finance

His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Shamsi, Ambassador of the UAE to the Republic of Peru, met with His Excellency Oscar Graham Yamahuchi, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Peru, at the Ministry's headquarters in the capital, Lima.

During the meeting, they reviewed prospects for cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations between the UAE and the Republic of Peru in various economic, investment and trade fields. The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic partnerships between the two countries, particularly in the fields of innovation, technology and the knowledge economy.

QATAR UNIVERSITY’S COMPUTING CLUB (QUCC) CONDUCTED A FIRST OF ITS KIND SUMMER BOOTCAMP

Qatar University’s Computing Club (QUCC) conducted a first of its kind Summer Bootcamp, in collaboration with Store974, aimed at enhancing the skills of the participants and giving them a hands-on experience.

The bootcamp was launched on 18th June with its opening ceremony focusing on introducing the event to the participants and allowing the participants to network with each other based on their interests.

The bootcamp offered three tracks which the participants can choose from depending on their interests – AI & Data Science, Web & App development, and Robotics. These three tracks were offered based on the growing potential of these fields in the industry.

Participants took part in teams of three to four members each, who then competed with other teams over the course of three weeks from 18th June to 9th July. The teams worked on projects of their choosing and were mentored by industry-experienced engineers as well as students who guided them in their projects in addition to having provided workshops in their respective tracks. The teams also presented their projects during progress meetings which were conducted weekly wherein they also received feedback from their mentors.

Throughout the duration of the bootcamp there was an active leadership board wherein the rankings of each team could be viewed. The teams were ranked based on numerous factors such as presentation, features, efficiency of their projects, etc., all considered by the judges. Based on these criteria, the winners of the bootcamp were awarded with prizes during the closing ceremony from store974. Team ‘meta2.0’ ranked third while team ‘while cool: code’ won the second prize and the first prize was bagged by team ‘:)’.

Maab Esam, a participant from team ‘while cool: code’ added that the bootcamp was “such a unique, eye-opening experience that broadens my horizons on the unlimited cool stuff that I can learn from the internet”.

With great effort by the entire management team at QUCC, Summer bootcamp 2022 came to an end with a closing ceremony on 9th of July with the presence of Mr. Timothy, the marketing manager of Store974, who sponsored the prizes for the winners. The President of QUCC, Sara Metwaly, commented “This boot camp was one of the greatest projects our management team had worked on, and on receiving amazing feedback from the students we worked harder to make sure it goes on smoothly. This success and accomplishment are the result of the hard work and dedication of our management team out there and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their efforts.”

All in all, this first of a kind Summer Bootcamp 2022 hosted by Qatar University’s Computing Club aimed to provide a memorable learning experience for the participants and fortunately, it succeeded in doing so.

UAE President meets with Prime Minister of French Republic

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne today in Paris.

The meeting – which came on the second day of the UAE President’s state visit to France – took place at the Hôtel Matignon, the Prime Minister’s official residence.

His Highness and Prime Minister Borne discussed the longstanding relations between France and the UAE and explored opportunities to further strengthen these ties while addressing some of the most pressing issues facing the world today.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed noted the UAE’s interest in collaborating across a broad range of topics, including the economy, bilateral investment, the environment, climate change, food security and sustainable technology.

His Highness and the French Prime Minister also discussed their alignment on the importance of pursuing peaceful coexistence and achieving greater stability for all.

Writing in the official guest book at the end of his visit, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed commented, "I had the pleasure of meeting Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne. Our two countries enjoy a special relationship as friends and partners, and a shared ambition to further strengthen our bonds and explore new opportunities to benefit both nations."

Qatar Charity organizes a panel discussion on famine in Somalia: Towards an effective and urgent response

Qatar Charity and the Center for Humanitarian and Development Studies (RASD) are jointly organizing a virtual panel discussion on famine in Somalia under the title: Towards effective and urgent response. The virtual event will take place on 20 July 2022 at 12:30 pm Doha time, with the participation of the Coordinator United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), International Displacement monitoring Center (IDMC) and Save the Children.

The panel discussion will bring to the table representatives from the UN agencies, international non-governmental organizations, local NGOs from Somalia, and other stakeholders to provide a firsthand account of the humanitarian situation on the ground and address the current crisis in Somalia regarding food insecurity, displacement, and climate change.

The event comes amid alerts from UN agencies warning that nearly half the population of Somalia faces acute levels of food insecurity, and a growing risk of famine as the country is faced with the worst drought in 40 years.

In this context and response to UN appeals to avert a humanitarian crisis in Somalia, Qatar Charity has launched an urgent response appeal for relief in Somalia. Moreover, resources were swiftly mobilized to respond to the alarming situation in Somalia and to mitigate the impact of the severe drought, carrying out immediate field interventions consisting of distribution of food items, distribution of potable water, rehabilitation of health centers, and others for the benefit of more than 400,000 around Somalia.

MOPH Announces the First Case of Monkeypox in Qatar

The Ministry of Public Health today announced the registration of the first confirmed case of monkeypox in the State of Qatar. The case was detected in a traveler returning to Qatar from abroad. The patient has been placed in hospital isolation and is receiving the necessary medical care according to the national protocol for managing confirmed cases of monkeypox.

All individuals who have been in close contact with the confirmed case have been traced and their health condition will be monitored for 21 days to identify any potential development of monkeypox symptoms.

The Ministry of Public Health stated that all necessary protective measures for the early detection of suspected monkeypox cases have been implemented, in addition to providing detection and diagnosis capability in national laboratories and updating regulations and guidelines for managing the disease.

The Ministry of Public Health, in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO), is closely monitoring the global and regional epidemiological situation, to ensure the healthcare sector’s readiness and ability to manage any future developments.

The Ministry of Public Health recommends that community members should adhere to precautionary health advice, especially during travel. For questions and enquiries related to monkeypox, individuals can call the health sector of health sector support line on 16000 , 24 hours a day.
