Qatar Supports Efforts to Promote Business and Human Rights

Geneva, June 11 (QNA) – Qatar has confirmed that it will spare no effort to contribute effectively to support efforts on business and human rights, as the promotion and protection of human rights is a strategic choice and it represents the cornerstone of a comprehensive reform policy pursued by the state.

The State of Qatar looks forward to organizing a regional workshop on Business and Human Rights in cooperation with the United Nations Centre for training and documentation in the field of human rights for South-West Asia and the Arab Region in Doha and the Working Group on human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises before the end of 2014.

This came in Qatar’s speech delivered by the Director of the Human Rights Department at the Foreign Ministry HE Sheikh Khalid bin Jassim Al -Thani, at the 26th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on the item (3) on the interactive dialogue with the Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other Business institutions .

The State of Qatar pays increasing attention on the issue of business and human rights besides related UN guidelines which represents a roadmap for all stakeholders, ” HE Sheikh Khalid said, adding that” the promotion and protection of human rights is a strategic choice of the state and represents the cornerstone of a comprehensive reform policy pursued by Qatar . “(QNA)
