Iraqi President Seeks International Community’s Help

Baghdad, August 16 (QNA) – Iraqi President Fuad Masum has called on the international community to cooperate with his country against terrorism and the targeting of minorities.

During a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier the Iraqi president said Iraq is facing a new kind of terrorism directed against Iraqis in general and against members of religious minorities and others in the areas controlled by ”the criminal organization.”
He stressed the need for the international community’s concerted efforts with Iraq in order to put an end to this terrorist expansion because it poses a major threat not only to Iraq, but to the whole region and the world.

For his part, Steinmeier explained that the world is now facing major problems in different areas, and that the most serious problem among the world’s problems now is the danger of Daash Organization and its expansion. This is what makes Germany and the international community stand with Iraq, Steinmeier said
He added that the visit of the German delegation to Iraq aims to underline solidarity with the Iraqi people and to assist in countering Daash terrorist organization as well as assisting in the issue of displaced persons and expressing support for the new leadership of Iraq to implement its programme and develop and strengthen the unity of the country.(QNA)
