Mumbai, Indian stocks reached a four-week low at the close of Monday's session.
The BSE benchmark Sensex ended down 233.60 points or 0.9% at 25,807.10, off the day's low of 25,753.74. The Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange ended at 7908.25, recording a loss of 77.50 points or 0.97%.
The market was lower on fears of new regulation that could impact capital gains, as well as fears regarding potential macroeconomic headwinds that could face Indian firms.
Pharmaceuticals, metal and realty stocks were among the major losers. Bank, automobile, telecom, power, oil and consumer durables stocks also ended notably lower. Capital goods stocks were down as well, while information technology stocks found modest support.
